Part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series, the winner of the 2008 Beverly D. Stakes automatically qualifies for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf. [1]

The race was first run in 1987, but was not run the following season due to refurbishment at Arlington Park. It was also not run in 1998/99 as the track was closed during this time.
