C F Orr Stakes

The C F Orr Stakes is a Group 1 Australian thoroughbred horse race at Weight for Age, run over a distance of 1400 metres at Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne in February. Prizemoney in 2010 is $AUD400,000.
The race often attracts the best horses in Australia, as they start their autumn campaigns.

Race Changes


Prior to 1993 was Group 2.
1925 to 1942 was run under WFA with penalties.
1943 to 1945 was run under handicap conditions.
1946 onwards WFA.

1925 to 1940 held at Williamstown Racecourse.
1942, 1943, 1946 to 1948 held at Moonee Valley Racecourse.
1943, 1945 held at Flemington Racecourse.
1966, 1996 held at Sandown Racecourse All other years held at Caulfield Racecourse.

1925 to 1956 & 1961 to 1963 held over 8 furlongs (approx 1600m).
1957 to 1960 & 1964 to 1972 held over 7 furlongs (approx 1400m).
Since 1973 held over 1400m.
