Coongy Handicap

The Coongy Handicap, also known as the David Jones Cup, is a Group 3 Australian Thoroughbred horse race held under open handicap conditions, for horses aged 3 years old and upwards, over a distance of 2000 metres. It is held at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne.

1898 - 1930 held over 11 furlongs (approx. 2200m)
1931 - 1937 the race was not held
1938 - 1940 held over 10 furlongs (approx. 2000m)
1941 held over 12 furlongs (approx. 2400m)
1942 - 1946 the race was not held
1947 - 1967 held over 12 furlongs (approx. 2400m)
1968 - 1972 held over 10 furlongs (approx. 2000m)
1973 - 1996 held over 2000m
1997 - 2000 held over 2100m
2001 onwards held over 2000m.

1898–1977 was a Principal Race
1978 onwards Group 3.

2007 onwards known as the David Jones Cup
