Gallinule Stakes

The Gallinule Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in Ireland which is open to three-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run at the Curragh over a distance of 1 mile and 2 furlongs (2,012 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late May.

The event is named after Gallinule, the Irish-based sire of Pretty Polly, a successful filly in the early 1900s. For most of its history the Gallinule Stakes has been restricted to three-year-olds, and it formerly held Group 2 status. It was opened to older horses in 1994, and it was downgraded to Group 3 level in 1998. The race was switched to Leopardstown for the 2001 and 2002 runnings, and it returned to the Curragh in 2003. It reverted to being an event for three-year-olds only in 2004.
