German 1,000 Guineas

The German 1,000 Guineas is a Group 2 flat horse race in Germany which is open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at Düsseldorf over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early June.

The event is the German version of the 1,000 Guineas Stakes, an important race for fillies in England. It was first run in 1919, and it was originally called the Kisasszony-Rennen. It was initially held at Grunewald, and it was then moved to Hoppegarten in 1923.

The race's title was changed to the Schwarzgold-Rennen in 1941. This was in honour of Schwarzgold, a champion filly of the previous season. The event was not contested in 1945 and 1946, and for the following two years it was run at Cologne (1947) and Krefeld (1948). It was transferred to its present venue, Düsseldorf, in 1949.

When the present system of race grading was introduced in Germany in 1972, the Schwarzgold-Rennen was classed at Group 3 level. It was promoted to its current status, Group 2, in 1985. The race became known as the ARAG-Preis in 1989, and this was changed to the Henkel-Rennen in 1997. It continued with this name until 2005, and since then it has been run under various sponsored titles. It was rescheduled for early June in 2008, prior to which it had usually taken place in late April or early May.
