Mehl-Mülhens-Rennen

The Mehl-Mülhens-Rennen, sometimes referred to as the German 2,000 Guineas, is a Group 2 flat horse race in Germany which is open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. It is run at Weidenpesch Racecourse, Cologne, over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile), and it is scheduled to take place each year in May.

The event was established in 1871, and it was originally known as the Henckel-Rennen. In its early years it was held at Hoppegarten, and it was initially run over a distance of 2,000 metres. The present length, 1,600 metres, was set in 1904. With the exception of the period 1918 to 1922, when it was switched to Grunewald, the Henckel-Rennen remained at its original venue until 1944. Its next long-term home was at Gelsenkirchen, where it was run from 1950 to 1985. The event was given its current title when it was transferred to Cologne in 1986.

The race is the German version of the 2,000 Guineas Stakes, and it has held Group 2 status since 1972.
