The Prix Chloe is a Group 3 flat horse race in France which is open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at Chantilly over a distance of 1,800 metres (about 1⅛ miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late June or early July.

History

The Prix Chloe was established in 1921 alongside an equivalent race for male horses, the Prix Daphnis. The two events were named after the characters Daphnis and Chloe from a work by the Greek novelist Longus. This was popularised in France by the translation of Paul-Louis Courier. Both races were originally held at Le Tremblay and took place in mid April. The Prix Chloe was contested over 1,600 metres, and it served as a trial for the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches two weeks later.

The distance of the Prix Chloe was extended to 1,800 metres in 1961. Le Tremblay closed in 1967, and the event was transferred to Longchamp the following year. The present system of race grading was introduced in 1971, and the Prix Chloe was classed at Group 3 level. It continued to be staged at Longchamp for a short period, and it was then moved to its next long-term home, Evry, in 1973.

The Prix Chloe was given a new slot — late June or early July — in 1977. For the 1993 running its distance was temporarily cut to 1,600 metres. It remained at Evry until the track closed in 1996, and since then its venue has frequently changed. It was held at Maisons-Laffitte in 1997, and at Chantilly from 1998 to 2002. The 2003 edition took place at Longchamp, and it then had brief spells at both Chantilly (2004–05) and Maisons-Laffitte (2006–08). It was again shortened to 1,600 metres in 2008, but its length was restored to 1,800 metres when it returned to Chantilly in 2009.
