Sandown Classic

The Sandown Classic is a Melbourne Racing Club Group 2 Australian Thoroughbred horse race held under weight for age conditions, for horses aged three years old and upwards, over a distance of 2400 metres. It is held at Sandown Racecourse in Melbourne in November. Prize money in is AUD$400,000.

1943 - 1950 was held over 13 furlongs (2600 m)

Name

From 1888 it was known as the Williamstown Cup.
1964 – 1998 was called the Sandown Cup.
1999 onwards it was called the Sandown Classic.
