Tooheys New Stakes

The Tooheys New Stakes is a Group 3 Australian Thoroughbred horse race for horses aged 3 years old and upwards, over a distance of 2600 metres. It is a traditional lead-up race to the Adelaide Cup. Total prizemoney is $125,000. It is held annually at Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide.

1889 - 1971 held over 12 furlongs (approx. 2400m)
1973 - 1979 held over 2400m
1980 - 1981 held over 2600m
1982 - 1985 held over 2450m
1986 - 1997 held over 2400m
1998 - 2003 held over 2500m
2004 onwards held over 2600m.

1980 onwards Group 3

1889 - 1979 the race was known as the ‘West End Draught Stakes’
1980 - 1984 the race was known as the ‘West End Stakes’
1985 - 1991 the race was known as the ‘West End Export Stakes’
1992 the race was known as the ‘West End Super Stakes’
1993 - 1994 the race was known as the ‘Eagle Blue Stakes’
1995 - 2000 the race was known as the ‘West End Draught Stakes’
2001 - 2007 the race was known as the ‘Carlton Draught Stakes’
2008 onwards the race has been called the ‘Tooheys New Stakes’.
